Offertory: A Lenten Musical Journey featuring singer-songwriter,
Tim Bethea. Tim is a gifted musician and worship leader from the Upstate of South Carolina. He will be leading us in this special Lenten Concert Saturday evening, 3/4/23 at 5PM, and leading worship in our second service on 3/5/23.
From the Artist:
In early 2017, as the newly appointed Worship Pastor at All Saints Church, Spartanburg, I sat at my desk and made plans to lead a special night of worship using the Harp and Bowl method. While researching the various approaches to this unique blend of prayer and worship, I found a reference to 1 Chronicles 16, which lays out David’s instruction for worship.
I read David’s Song of Thanks and was quickened to pick up my guitar. As I began strumming, a vocal melody came pouring out and a song was born. After a few days of crafting and arranging this newly inspired work, I was overcome with joy at what the Lord was doing in me. In response, I set out to write a song a week for the Offertory.
And so, from the Fifth Sunday After the Epiphany all the way through Holy Week, I used the appointed readings from the Revised Common Lectionary (Year A) for lyrical inspiration, and wrote corresponding music that drew from influences of folk, rock, gospel, ballad, ethereal, and even Hebraic dance. From the Holy Mountain to Christ in the wilderness, from Abram to the woman at the well, from the Exodus to Mary outside the tomb, this is the story of our salvation.
This is OFFERTORY: A Lenten Musical Journey.
Songs Performed:
The Lord Reigns
Lord of Glory
Your Word is in Me
The One
Cloud On Fire Deliverance
Born of the Spirit
Poured Out / Come to the Well
Awake O Sleeper
The One (Lazarus Reprise)
The LORD’s Passover
Woman
